Savimbo has a new land buyback program that is basically only the reverse of fortress conservation. Rights of nature patrimony, Indigenous collective ownership, and parks funding.

Most people know we love Rights of Nature (whole deep-nerd rabbit-hole). The Tierra program for us is putting our money where our postcolonial mouth is. The HOW of land buybacks, conservation, and Indigenous and local land rights.

We’ve been friends with the Pada Kera cabilido in Colombia since we began. Cipriano and Leyson specialized in camera trapping, reforestation, and did the technical carbon studies on the ground.
We are delighted that they are the prototype land buyback in the Tierra program. They have been displaced for a number of years because they were traditionally a nomadic group, and they really deserved it.
