Darien project

In the province of Darien, Panama, there are several Indigenous communities that, although geographically close, retain unique cultural identities. Puerto Lara, Alto Playón, Arimae and Emberá Purú are outstanding examples of this cultural richness.

Each of these communities contributes to the cultural mosaic of Darien, demonstrating how ancestral traditions can coexist with modern initiatives for sustainable development and the preservation of Indigenous heritage including Wounaan and Embera nations. We are excited to collaborate with them and their youth, who are climate activists par excellence.

Outcomes

Our projects are all focused on preserving or extending intact ecosystems. Ecosystems that generate and maintain abundant food, animal life, and natural capital for the people who live in them, and for the planet. Here’s a data dashboard for the results from the Darien biodiversity pilot, which is experimental data collection and NOT an enrolled biodiversity crediting project.

Ecotourism experiences

The Darien site is enrolled in our ecotourism program and offers a deep jungle experience package.

Visit our ecotourism page to book a visit to this site. This is a deep jungle site and visitors must pass a screening interview and ideally a visit to the Villagarzón site prior to receiving approval to travel here.
